After 4 months of lockdown, we’re pleased to let you know that the Government have confirmed hairdressers are now allowed to open our doors to our dearly missed customers, from 12th April. We need to take a day to get set up properly so we will open on Tuesday 13th April at 10am.

We have been inundated with calls and messages from our customers who are in desperate need of a trim, colouring, treatments… you name it we’ve been asked, and we are just so happy to finally be able to say – YES, please come and our stylists will be more than happy to assist.

We’re excited to announce the official launch of a new service at Silk Trends. Check out the new Texture Release by Avlon.  Texture Release System is heat activated with amino acids and conditioning agents which go deep into the hair fibers to enable styling versatility. This allows the client to have optional textural change with increased combing manageability. Why was the product developed?

For years clients with excessively curly hair have battled with the choice of natural or not. In the 21st century clients want the freedom to wear their hair as they please.  With new technology available, Avlon‘s research centre has been busy developing innovative products to meet these needs without compromising on the hair’s condition.

You will always have clients that prefer to wear their hair completely natural, or in some form of extension.  As well as clients who wish to colour, relax or perm their hair.

Texture Release is aimed at the client who wishes to have to freedom to do all of the aforementioned without commitment. Texture Release will give the client options Whether you wish to elongate your natural curl pattern, transition from a chemical to a non-chemical service, or wear your natural curl with the option.

How long does it last for?

Texture Release will last up to two months depending on hair type and condition.

The Benefits of using Texture Release on natural hair?

It will condition natural hair, reduce the shrinkage and give greater manageability to natural hair.

Does the effect of Texture Release change the structure of afro hair permanently?

Over a period of time if you constantly went for optimal straightening then yes you would see changes.  This is something you would discuss on consultation with your stylist as you would then decide based on your styling needs, as to whether you would go for elongation, versatile straightening or optimal straightening.

Will Texture Release change the structure if afro hair permanently?

No. Texture Release will not change the hair structure permanently as it doesn’t break and reform any bonds in the hair.  Texture Release acts as a filter to the hair structure that is activated by heat.

Can you colour your hair on the same day as having Texture Release?

The best time to colour hair that has received a Texture Release treatment should be 3 – 5 days after the service.  However in situations where you need to colour on the day you can do so ONLY with a true semi permanent colour, NO QUASI or PERMANENT colours should be used at this time.

Can you use Texture Release on relaxed hair?

Yes it acts as an amazing treatment on relaxed hair and can be used in between relaxer services.

Ingrid, Silk Trends Creative Director, continues  to lead the Silk Trends Styling Team and has been busy creating new Hair Styles and delivering in-house Hairdressing training.  Ingrid has also embarked on an Introduction to Trichology course, with the intention of progressing further in the future to become 

The Introduction Course is for those with appropriate experience in Hairdressing wanting to learn more in-depth knowledge about the fundamentals of Trichology, including advance knowledge on the structure of hair and skin, conditions of the hair and scalp, and the problems that can cause worrying problems for clients.  This will allow Ingrid to fully support and advise potential clients with extreme hair conditions in the future, such as Alopecia.

Redet (standing in the photo below) is an experienced and qualified Junior Hair Stylist with an NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing qualification.  Redet joined the Silk Trends team in March 2016 and specialises in Natural Hair Styling and Maintenance, Blow Dry Styling, Colouring, Cornrows, Weave Tracks for adding Length or Volume.

Marie (sitting in the photo above) is an experienced and qualified Junior Hair Stylist also with NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing.  Marie, joined the Silk Trends team in September 2016, and specialises in Cutting, Colouring, Relaxing, Highlights, and Blow Dry Styling and Hair Maintenance…

Where have all the years gone?  Today we are celebrating 10 years since Silk Trends first opened its doors. One thing that has kept us motivated all these years is our lovely clients. Some of you have been devoted clients well before Silk Trends, many of you have been coming week in week out since the first week we opened our doors in 2007, and some of you have just discovered us.

Whenever you first came to us, we’d like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your loyalty to Silk Trends, and for making it an enjoyable journey.  It’s been an exciting and challenging 10 years, and we have created some absolutely lovely memories along the way…

Her Daughter Dionne attended the prestigious London Hair and Beauty Awards event at the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square.  This prestigious  event attracts the most creative and high profile hairdressers in the industry, and especially helps to highlight the fantastic achievements in Afro Hairdressing and put quality Afro Hair Salons on the map in the mainstream. She was extremely surprised to be… going on stage to receive the award.

Dionne said “I was sat on a table with some big players in the hairdressing industry (such as Kevin Fortune – TV/Celebrity Hair Stylist, and Richard Ward salon), and was feeling pretty star struck.  When I heard our name called out I was so shocked, but full of excitement.  We had wished for so long to win this award, and now its finally come true, we’re over the moon”.

First runner up at the English Hair & Beauty Awards and now we’ve come second in the Waltham Forest Small Business Awards. Ingrid said, ‘Being nominated last year was an unbelievable experience and we had an amazing time attending the ceremony.  We have all our fingers and toes crossed for winning the big prize, and i think I will be speechless on hearing our name called out as winner of the Hair Salon of the Year London 2013′. 

The Silk Trends team will now have to wait patiently until 3rd March to find out if they have won, where they will be attending the glitzy event held at the Midland Hotel, Manchester and hoping to bring home the main prize to East London.

However, this time we’re talking about our very own Creative Director, Ingrid Farrell.  Ingrid’s hair journey began back in November 2011 when our famous sought after Brazilian Keratin Treatment was performed on Ingrid’s hair for the first time.

Ingrid has always had a bit of trouble growing her hair and it has usually been quite thin, but with a bit of TLC and patience growth was achievable. Having tried many different ways to grow her hair in the past, the Silk Trends team decided (after careful consideration) that the only way forward was for Ingrid to have the Brazilian Keratin Treatment. After the treatment was performed back in 2011, Ingrid was able to experiment more with her hair, and decided to have fun with her locks, and bleached and coloured her hair to a gorgeous rich copper colour for the summer, something she had never been able to do before when her hair was either relaxed or just natural. With a little help from the Brazilian Keratin Treatment bleach and colour on afro hair became a safe reality not a dream.

After having had her summer of fun Ingrid decided that it was time to get serious about growing and thickening her hair, and practice what she preaches about taking as good care of her own hair as she does with all our clients. After much consideration she decided to go back to basics… Natural colour and healthy shiny LONG hair was her new goal.

Ingrid decided to put her hair in plaits her hair for several months, to give her hair a break from heat processing. Plaiting is not for everyone and depends on your lifestyle, and needs to be done with care as can sometimes damage and put pressure on your hair, especially around the hairline.  Ingrid would re-do sections of her plaits every couple of months to keep it tidy, and this was a good opportunity to give her hair regular moisturising treatments in between plaiting to help keep the hair hydrated (thirsty hair is a big no, no) and soft. This helped to promote hair growth too. And boy did Ingrid’s hair grow!  To an impressive length to say the least.  Jealousy was very abundant in salon that day.   

By the time it came to take out her plaits in February 2013 Ingrid’s hair had gone from chin length and being relatively thin, to thick and shoulder length.  The Silk Trends team then decided it was time for Ingrid to have a new dose of Brazilian Keratin Treatment, to help restore a healthy shine from previous colouring, lock in new colour, and give her smooth, frizz free and luxurious hair.

We are looking for a model with Natural Afro Hair who is willing to have a cornrow style done on their hair during our Monday evening Afro Hair Training class on Monday 23rd April 2012 from 6pm till 9.30pm.

You must have bare natural afro hair (i.e. no braids/extensions currently in ) and must arrive with your hair already washed and ready to cornrow.

All our hairdressing students are supervised while performing hair services.

When Tamara came to us, she gave us a pre warning telling us that almost every other hairdresser that she had been to had run away from her hair as it was so unruly and difficult to tame. Tamara also told us that she has to dedicate a whole day just to wash her locks and by the end of the process she’s too tired to bother with treatments, let alone anything else so she ends up scrunching her hair back up into a ball until the next time she decides to tackle the challenge.

Now, our salon director Ingrid lives by the motto that no hair shall ever defeat her and defeat her it did not!

Here’s how our very own Ingrid conquered the what was once thought to be the impossible;

After partaking in a luxurious of Mizani Moisturfusion Milk Bath shampoo and conditioner, D’Tangle leave in conditioner by Mizani and Silken Seal by KeraCare were worked through Tamara’s hair evenly. The hair was then sectioned into four different sections and blow-dried using a dryer with a comb attachment to help bring the hair into a straighter stature. By bringing the hair into a straighter structure this would make it easier to straighten sleekly when it came to the pressing process.

Tamara’s hair was then sectioned again and pressed with wide ceramic Wet 2 Straight hair straighteners by Remington.  Mizani’s heat protector Gloss Veil was then applied. This product protects the hair as well as giving great shine while also helping the style to stay in place for last longer. After the pressing process was completed Ingrid then gave Tamaras hair a final boost and a healthy shine by spritzing KeraCare Gloss Sheen for the final look.

We recently caught up with Tamara who tells us that a week later the style is still in place and looks perfect. To help keep your style in place like Tamara’s, we recommend that you wrap your style at night with a silk bonnet to keep the shape and body.

Saffron decided to go for a short, fierce Graduated cut, as she liked the short Rihannaesque look and felt that it would be easier to maintain what with it being shorter. 

Our very own Creative Director Ingrid got to work to make sure Saffron got exactly what she wanted and here’s how she did it;

First Ingrid shampooed and conditioned Saffron’s hair with Mizani Moisturfusion Milk Bath and Conditioner. D’Tangle leave in conditioner also by Mizani was also applied to prevent the hair from tangling while cutting. While the hair was wet Ingrid began to section the hair and cut it into short layers, gradually working her way up towards the crown of the head. This was then dried using a round brush technique for extra va va voom.

Lastly Mizani Gloss Veil was applied as a heat protector and the hair was then flat ironed with ceramic straighteners. The result is a sexy, short and managable hair to die for.

Like many people Saffron was tired of relaxing her hair and what with her having mixed textured hair this style was easier to maintain.

We love Saffron’s new look, and we hope you all do too.

Deposit Payment Booking and Cancellations Policy

We ask all clients to secure their hair service appointments booking with a deposit payment (£20 for normal hair services, £30 for Brazilian Keratin Treatment or Weave appointments).  This deposit will be taken off your final hair service bill at the end of your appointment.

If for any reason you have to cancel or change your appointment, please let us know at least 48 hours before your planned appointment and we will happily change your appointment (if new times are available) or cancel your appointment all together and refund your deposit payment to you.

Due to a number of clients consistently not showing up for their appointments without giving prior notice, this has resulted in other hair service appointments running behind as we wait for the person to arrive (assumed running late), and other clients being turned away unnecessarily when they could have offered an appointment.

We hope that you can understand that by giving us as much notice as possible, we can offer your unwanted appointment to another client on our waiting list, and it also helps everything run smoothly, professionally and on time at the salon. All we ask is that you give us a call on 0208 529 8000 at least 48 hours before to let us know you no longer require your appointment.

Unfortunately, any appointments that are cancelled with less than 48 hours notice or missed appointments (i.e. you simply do not show up for your appointment) will incur a fee (i.e. your deposit payment will be retained to cover the loss appointment).

An East London hair stylist is celebrating after reaching the finals of the prestigious English Hair and Beauty Awards. Ingrid Farrell, owner and Creative Director of Silk Trends Afro and European Hair Salon in Chingford, East London, is one of only 13 stylists in the country to be selected as a Finalist for Women’s Stylist of the Year at the English Hair and Beauty Awards 2012.

The aim of the English Hair and Beauty Awards is to acknowledge the hair stylists and beauticians across England who make their clients look and feel great and award them for their talent and hard work within the industry.

Since opening Silk Trends 5 years ago, Ingrid has not looked back. Having recently achieving a 4 star rating by the Good Salon Guide, completing her second photographic hair collection, and putting on an extravagant hair and fashion show in the local community, Ingrid is determined to raise the profile of Silk Trends, and raise the bar in providing high quality hairdressing services for all.

Ingrid expressed “she never imagined that she would be a contender up against some serious heavy weights in the hair industry, such likes of Anne Veck salon and Lisa Shepherd salon, when it came to being nominated for such a prestigious award like Women’s Stylist of the Year”.

And as its based on a public votes, being selected has really boosted our confidence that we are providing a service that people geniunely want and enjoy”.

Ingrid is hoping to take home the gold this year at the awards and is nothing short of grateful to her clients and her staff, which she strongly expresses, have been a huge support. “The clients have really supported us and this goes to show that all the hard work is paying off. I think it would be a breakthrough if the winner did not just specialise in one type of hair but catered for all hair types, like Silk Trends does. It’s all about crossing the boundaries and conventions of hairdressing, along with making way for the next generation of talent. I believe that no customer should be excluded just because of their hair type.” Inspiring words? We think so.

The English Hair and Beauty Awards will be held on 6th May in Manchester and is in partnership with the Katie Piper Foundation, who is dedicated to helping people who have been affected by burns and scars. The evening, which will recognise the very best in the English Hair and Beauty industry, will also be a fundraiser for the Foundation, and hopes to raise many thousands of pounds on the night. Ingrid also expressed strongly “by working with the Katie Piper foundation the English Hair and Beauty Awards will be sending a positive message that top class hair and beauty services should be accessible for all, without prejudice or discrimination.”

The Silk Trends team now have a nervous wait until 6th May when the grand final will be held at a glitzy awards event at the Midlands Hotel in Manchester, where they hope Ingrid will scoop the top prize.

Think you’ve got what it takes to strut your stuff in front of the camera?

Well we are looking for not 1 but 2 models for an upcoming exciting hair photoshoot for our entry into the prestigous Mizani Afro Catwalk Look Award -L’Oreal Colour Trophy 2012.

Models must be willing to have a total hair redesign (i.e. change of hair colour and a new hair cut style).  If you think you got what it takes, please email in 2 photos (1 head shot, 1 full length shot) to info@silktrends.co.uk, and also tell us why you think you should be chosen.

The deadline for submitting your photos is Wednesday 1st February at 5pm. 

Experience is not always necessary, but you must be a natural in front of the camera. If you have what it takes then you could be our next top model.

The aim of the English Hair and Beauty Awards 2012 is to acknowledge the hair stylists and beauticians across England who make us look and feel great and award them for their talent and hard work within the industry.

The awards are decided by public vote, as you are the best judges of the true quality of a salon.

At Silk Trends, we strive to provide a high quality professional salon service, within both a friendly and relaxing atmosphere.
