Silk Trends Turns 10 Years Old

Where have all the years gone?  Today we are celebrating 10 years since Silk Trends first opened its doors. One thing that has kept us motivated all these years is our lovely clients. Some of you have been devoted clients well before Silk Trends, many of you have been coming week in week out since the first week we opened our doors in 2007, and some of you have just discovered us.

Whenever you first came to us, we’d like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your loyalty to Silk Trends, and for making it an enjoyable journey.  It’s been an exciting and challenging 10 years, and we have created some absolutely lovely memories along the way…

Award winning salon Silk Trends are expanding their team and require a fresh new inspiring Hairdresser who is looking for opportunities to progress their career:

JUNIOR HAIR STYLIST – Passionate, and enthusiastic Hairdressers who have excellent people skills and committed to expanding their career aspirations, and want to be well rewarded and appreciated for all the hard work and great things you do.  A forward thinking individual with previous experience of providing quality hairdressing services for people from all walks of life.

We cater for all hair types so you must be accomplished at cutting, colouring, relaxing/perming and styling Afro, European and Mixed-textured hair.  Must have at least 2 years commercial experience.  Experience with weaving/hair extensions is a plus.  Experience with Brazilian Keratin Hair Systems is a plus, but not necessary as training will be provided.

You will be committed to providing high level customer service and strive to exceed our customers’ expectations.  You must be very pro-active in improving personal and technical skills and enthusiastic about continuous career develop.  You must be well presented, and understand that PUNCTUALITY is KEY to our business success.

PLEASE NOTE: This is part-time position (working 2 to 3 days a week for the right person).  This will definitely include working on a Saturday and at least two late evenings on Thursdays and Fridays).

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Junior Hair Stylists – Must have completed NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing, and currently studying towards NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing or willing to study towards NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing (e.g. attend college 1 day per week while working), and have minimum 2 years commercial experience.

** You will only be considered for a Stylist position if you have completed NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing Qualifcation and have the relevant level of experience. If you have recently completed NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing and have less than 2 years commercial experience or no commercial experience at all we may consider you for one of our APPRENTICE HAIRDRESSER positions.**

SALARY INFORMATION:

Negotiable depending on level and experience

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

Must speak fluent English (whether as first or second language).

VISA REQUIREMENTS:

Must be a UK citizen or have a valid work permit (Student Visa or Holiday visa will not be accepted).

REFERENCES REQUIRED:

Two references will be required if you are a successful candidate.

Ingrid Farrell, Creative Director and Salon Managing Director of Silk Trends, has been selected as finalist for Women’s Stylist of the Year, making the top 6 in the UK.

Also Isabel Gaston and Tatiana Miranda, our talented Junior Stylists have both been selected as finalists for Junior Stylist of the Year, going head to head against each other as well as 4 other contenders from other salons for this well sort after award, making the top 6 in the UK.

The glitzy event endeavours to show appreciation for those in the beauty industry that leave us looking and feeling fantastic; from salons to the talented individuals who work within them. Its time to acknowledge those that they really do help to make the world a more beautiful place to live in! Whether it’s a hair stylist that has transformed your barnet from dull to dazzling, a beautician that has made you look and feel like a movie star, a salon that consistently provides an excellent environment, a talented newcomer to the industry or indeed somebody that has dedicated their entire life to it – these Awards provide a platform to thank those in the beauty industry, letting them know that their good work doesn’t go un-noticed. The event promises to be as glam as the individuals and salons it’s acknowledging!

This is the third year in a row that Silk Trends has reached the finals of this prestiguious awards, with Ingrid being a finalist for Womens Stylist of the Year in 2012 making the top 13 in the UK, and Silk Trends salon itself selected as finalist for Hair Salon of the Year London in 2013, making the top 3 salons in London.

We will be attending this exciting event on Sunday 30th March 2014 at the swanky Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel where we’ll be hoping and praying we win the big prize and bring the award back home to East London.
