Silk Trends will be supporting ACLT (African Caribean Leaukemia Trust) in the up coming Adidas Women’s 5K Challenge in Hyde Park on Sunday 11th September 2011.
ACLT provide support for people in desperate need of a bone marrow donor. It’s shocking but it’s true, your chances of finding a lifesaving bone marrow donor ARE much more worse if you’re BLACK or Mixed Race…because there are 24 times more white people than black people on UK bone marrow registers.
Dionne (Silk Trends Marketing and Finance Director) has volunteered to compete in this year’s Adidas Women’s 5K Challenge to support the ACLT, and has the mammouth task of getting herself fit in time for the race.
Dionne says “I have never done anything like this in my life, so it’s a pretty daunting task. The only time I have really done any running before is to catch a bus. lol. I’ve started a bit of training, which has been tough going as a beginner, but hopefully I’ll be able to reach my goal of completing the race within 35 mins“.
We are aiming to raise £1000.00 or more for the ACLT this year. If we reach £1000.00 before the race, Dionne has kindly agreed to a forfeit – To run the entire race in fancy dress :-).
We would be grateful if you could help us to raise as much as we can for the African Caribean Leaukemia Trust. Please donate what you can via our Virgin Money Giving Fundraising Page http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/silktrends, or if you prefer to donate in cash please pop into the salon and fill out the ACLT donations form.
You can even vote for which character Dionne will have to dress up as if we reach our target :-).
We wish Dionne the best of luck for completing the race. Look out for photos of the race coming soon.
