On Sunday 11th September 2011, Silk Trends competed in the Adidas Women’s 5K Challenge and raised well needed funds in support of the ACLT (African Caribean Leukaemia Trust).
ACLT provide support for people in desperate need of a bone marrow donor. It’s shocking but it’s true, your chances of finding a lifesaving bone marrow donor ARE much more worse if you’re BLACK or Mixed Race…because there are 24 times more white people than black people on UK bone marrow registers.
We want to say a big thank you all our clients, friends and family who sponsored us for competing in the the Adidas Women’s 5K Challenge in September, which was completed by our Silk Trends co-owner and newbie runner Dionne, who had the mammouth task of getting herself fit in time for the race, and fianlly completed the race in 27:58 mins.
With your help we managed to raise an amazing £370, which will help the charity increase awareness of the need for Bone Marrow and Blood donors especially with the Black, Asia and Mixed Heritage communities.
We will continue to raise awareness and needed funds for the ACLT in the future, and we would be grateful if you could help us to raise as much as we can for the African Caribean Leukaemia Trust. Please donate what you can via our Virgin Money Giving Fundraising Page http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/silktrends.
We are looking forward to next year’s event and hope to get together a team of runners, and raise even more money for this worthy cause.
